Writing Lessons in Desire was a real treat for me because it was just like coming home. One of the main characters, Crockett Devine, is an assistant professor at my alma mater, Chico State. Gina, Crockett’s love interest, attends the university as a graduate student.
I had an absolute blast describing Chico State and its surrounding community. I had pleasant flashbacks as the characters enjoyed one of my favorite pastimes from days in Chico—tubing. I used to love tubing down the Sacramento River with friends and beer.
The restaurants where they enjoy their meals are mostly ones I’ve frequented. This book was indeed a homecoming for me.
So if you enjoy a small-town atmosphere, the heat of a summer day, and a hot chemical reaction between two women, please give Lessons in Desire a read. I hope you’ll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
