POSITION TITLE: Chief Operations Officer

POSITION DUTIES: Based on the President’s strategy for the business: Select, develop and prepare content for print, digital and audio publication; Identify titles to be acquired or reprinted based on close analysis of trends in genre and LGBTQ+ fiction; Develop house style and branding standards; Review market research and business data to identify target markets and industry trends; Propose business strategy based on market evolution; Review editors' work product to ensure compliance with industry and house standards; Approve all manuscripts for publication; Set publication-specific schedules and budgets; Oversee publication production; Review expenses and identify and implement cost-saving measures; Manage marketing, advertising, sales and distribution, contractor and author relations, and operational budget; and Liaise with attorney and authors regarding author contract provisions and negotiation of subsidiary rights/royalty terms/copyright.

REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree in Publishing, Editing or equivalent subject and 5 years experience as Senior or Managing Editor or equivalent position which must include: 5 years experience editing genre and LGBTQ+ fiction for digital, audio and print publication; 3 years experience managing contractors, advertising and author appearances; 3 years experience publishing on e-commerce platforms, including assignment of genre classification, categories, and keywords; and 1 year experience using Quick Books, That's Rights, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, and Wordpress (or equivalent software) in a publishing context. Must have successfully proposed and implemented strategic initiatives, including targeted diversity programs, which advanced a publisher's market share or sales (or equivalent metric). Must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of historic and present trends in LGBTQ+ fiction market.
