C.J. Harte
C. J.
Harte
was born in New York but lived in many places while growing up. After
her family finally settled in the South, she attended college in the
Deep South where she obtained her degrees as well as a significant
Southern accent and a unrelenting sense of humor.
During her
residence in the South, C. J. was a political activist while
maintaining a full time job in health care. She edited a women's
newspaper, wrote political editorials and satire, and was a speech
writer for political candidates. She eventually climbed down the
corporate ladder and moved out west, where she works in health care and
continues to write from her Cheyenne home. She and her partner have
homes on two continents since they live on opposite sides of the ocean
much of the year.
When not
working or writing, C.J. Harte is either commuting between continents
or spending time with her four-footed friends in her beloved Wyoming,
looking out at the mountains and blue sky.

(2008)
Madison Barnes eats people for lunch.
Work, power, and success are the idols
Florida
attorney Madison Barnes worships, and she’s never allowed anything, or
anyone, to interfere with attaining them—except for her younger sister
Dee and Dee’s family, Madison’s one weak spot. At her sister’s
request, Madison reluctantly agrees to spend a weekend with
Dee’s
closest friend, a woman Madison considers a smart-ass troublemaker. To
Madison’s consternation, she discovers that the young college activist
menace she remembers has turned into an attractive, exciting woman she
can’t quite keep out of her thoughts. And Karlie Henderson Stockard
vividly recalls the acrimonious relationship with her best friend’s
older sister, and she isn’t looking forward to the reunion with
Madison.
Memories of their past encounters leave both women unprepared for the
different kinds of sparks that arise when they meet. Despite a fiery
attraction, Madison refuses to make any commitment, and Karlie
distrusts both Madison and the feelings Madison engenders. Karlie
eventually walks away from what is growing between them only to
discover a new danger in her life—one that threatens more than her
heart. Soon Madison and Karlie are thrown together again, only this
time the consequences may be deadly.
